Overview

Gardening without bending over!  Backyard Boxes Elevated Gardens stand 30″ tall and come in planting depths of 12″ for most veggies, and 16″ for deep root vegetables.  Choose your Planting depth and a length of 3ft, 4ft or 5ft.  We make our Elevated Garden Boxes from 100% untreated, dried cedar.  Which means they are very rot and insect resistant and will last much longer than other wood gardens. 

We start each elevated box with an external frame made from 2” lumber.  To create the sides, we insert 1″ thick boards into the frame to increase stability and support against outward soil pressure.  Each board overlaps with each other to lock all pieces into place with minimal hardware.

Specifications

Unless otherwise specified, dimensions listed are the outside dimensions of the Elevated Garden Box.  Our Elevated Garden Boxes are 30” tall and feature either a 12″ ( Standard)or 16″ (Extra Deep) planting depth.  These dimensions are the actual depth of the soil if filled to the top.

-Standard Elevated Gardens are 22″ wide and 12″ of planting depth and available in lengths of 3′, 4′ and 5′.

-Extra Deep Elevated Gardens are 22″ wide, 16″ of planting depth and available in lengths of 3′, 4′ and 5′.  

We make the frames and legs of our Elevated Garden Boxes with 2” cedar and the sides using 1” cedar.  We embed each side into the frame on all 4 sides to reduce bowing and resist outward soil pressure while minimizing hardware.

The Elevated Garden Box includes boards for the bottom of the box and a liner to retain soil.

Set-up and Assembly

Backyard Boxes Elevated Garden Boxes ship with 4 assembled sides.  Customers can easily attach all four sides using the provided bolts and a 7/16 socket wrench (not provided).   Lay down the bottom boards on the attached rails inside the bed and cover with the provided garden fabric.  Staple the fabric to the sides of the bed.

Once assembled, place your Elevated Garden Boxes on a flat, level surface and fill with soil.

Options

Our Elevated Garden Boxes come without treatment or stain.  Left untreated, cedar will remain strong and hold up against the elements.  To keep your garden box looking great as long as possible, we recommend applying a non-toxic stain or clear sealant to the outside of the box.  

We carry non-toxic sealant and stain in a wide variety of colors.  You can purchase quarts or gallons of clear sealant or color stain from us and apply it to your Garden Box.  We carry Vermont Natural Coatings clear sealants and stains.
